Our Favorite Light Sources
Brian Orter founded Brian Orter Lighting Design (BOLD for short) ten years ago. His experience in photography, theater, night clubs, and architectural lighting helped usher him into the world of hospitality lighting. And that’s where BOLD began.
We have two offices, our headquarters in New York City and our sister studio in Los Angeles. Collectively, we have 28 designers with expertise in architecture, interior design, lighting design, light fixture design, photography, theater and more. Our staff is diverse, dedicated, thoughtful, and creative.
We recently asked our designers to let us know what their favorite light source is and to provide a visual and brief description.
We’ll be revealing everyone’s favorite light source in the coming weeks. Now, here are the selections of three designers, all with hand-drawn visualizations.
Enver Bravo
A chrome top G40 incandescent lamp.
“I would say I like this source because it can be unexpected and has a strong graphic identity, as well as a nice double function in a simple object.”
Santiago Flores
The Tala Voronoi III light bulb.
“I like this light source because though its an LED it still gives the effect of a warm incandescent bulb. I feel that it’s also so sculptural and beautiful.”
Carlos Edeza

“The socket is humbling. The light is indirect. The chrome dip makes the lamp a fixture, not just a bulb.”
