Paley
HOLLYWOOD!
As part of the renovation of the old CBS Studios, (where I Love Lucy was filmed) Plan Do See opened Paley, an upscale eatery. The lighting concept was to transport the guest into an old-world Hollywood dining hall. With high ceilings, an open kitchen and an enormous wall of windows, creating an intimate experience was a challenge.
To maintain the height and glamour of the space, we worked closely with the interior designer to select the finishes of tables, hardware, and of course, the light fixtures. Bronze, brass, dark and light woods all help to differentiate spaces.
There’s a combination of LED and incandescent lighting. The custom chandeliers use low wattage halogen lamps to give the room warmth and shimmer. Theatrical fixtures hidden in the space are used to highlight the architecture with subtle pattern projections. Rope LEDs are tucked into the millwork, wine wall, and other locations to add layers of light and depth.
The most important goal of the lighting was to highlight the guests. Each table has a focused light meant to indirectly, bounce onto the faces of the patrons. We wanted the room to feel like an Al Hirschfeld cartoon. Everyone’s famous, everyone’s glowing, and everyone’s happy.
